Bellingen - Sunday 30 July

What a wonderful place "Bello" (as the locals call it) is.

The Bellingen Memorial Hall is obviously loved and valued by the community. It is a beautiful old building that dominates the immediate streetscape.

They have just installed a theatre quality screen and projector with half the hall having sloping seating just like a real picture theatre.

It provided a fatastic venue for the Defend Our Water community meeting.

Locals Caroline and Bec did a great job organising the meeting and we owe them a big vote of thanks.

Ava and his group performed their own anti-CSG song called "Lock The Gate" to acclaim from the audience. They were fantastic.

They have offered to perform it at the protest at the Sofitel in Sydney on 18 August and I for one think it would be a great addition to the day.

Those attending were anxious to find out what is happening and they participated keenly in the discussion that followed the presentations. They were so engaged that the meeting went an hour over the allocated time.

Mark Graham talked about the local impact of CSG mining and showed pictures of the CSG activity in the Pilliga (courtesy of Carmel Flint - Thank you Carmel for the pics). he has offered to give me copies so that I can incorporate them into our presentation.

Julie gave an impassioned, and very well received, speech urging the community to ongoing and sustained action to stop CSG mining.

Thanks again to the communtiy of Bellingen for giving the Defend Our Water tour a fantastic start. You will retain a special place in our hearts.

Cheers

Shelley the "Wonder Dog" takes on the frackers

Even Shelley has taken up the fight against CSG mining. She is now the official tour mascot.
