Gunnedah to Mudgee - Thursday 8 September

We headed off from Gunnedah on Thursday morning to travel to Mudgee.

The trip started off well. We headed back out to Mullaley to travel via Coolah. The countryside looked lovely.
We stopped at Tambar Spings for a look around. Tambar Springs is where they found the fossilised remains of Australia's dinosaur, the Diprotodon. We had a long chat with the lady who runs the general store / post office.
The closest relatives of the Diprotodon are the wombat and the koala.

Unfortunately, some bright spark decided to donate the fossils to the Coonabarabran Tourist Centre so we were unable to see them. The community is also unable to use them to draw visitors. You have to wonder sometimes!

We had lunch at the Black Stump Hotel at Coolah. It was a generous country feed.
After lunch we headed towards Mudgee via the village of Ulan.

This was a very depressing section of the trip as we travelled through areas that are subject to open cut coal mines. We have not included any pics as that aspect will be more thanamply covered in future posts.

We arrived at Mudgee in pouring rain and Michael got saturated setting up the van in the driveway of our hosts, Barbara and Norm.

Barbara and Norm provided us warm hospitality and a lovely dinner once Michael had dried out LOL. Kali, their dog, even stopped barking (eventually) when we made our way into the house to use the amenities.

Cheers
Michael & Julie
